Kim Kardashian set the tone for young divorces with a record 72-day marriage. However, even though her case is the most extreme of this year, celebrities seem to be reflecting quite the…counterexample…of love.

It’s ironic to me that the people with the biggest voices who have the power to REALLY influence people make the decisions they do.

Katy Kardashian… I mean, Kim Perry… I mean… Ugh! You know what I mean. Katy Perry and Russell Brand are divorcing. It was confirmed with a simple statement released yesterday from Mr. Brand himself: “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.”

Bam. Donezo.

Kim Kardashian’s divorce statement to E! News was similar: “After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage. I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best.”

In J.Lo and Marc Anthony’s joint statement to People Magazine, “We have decided to end our marriage…This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters. It is a painful time for all involved, and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time.”

Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz also released a joint statement to E! News: “After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to file for divorce. We remain friends and deeply committed and loving parents to our son Bronx, whose happiness and well-being remains our number one priority. We ask that everyone honor our privacy as we navigate this next phase of our lives.”

Christina Aguilera said, “Although Jordan and I are separated, our commitment to our son Max remains as strong as ever,” according to People.

So…basically…it’s always a painful decision but they care for each other and will always remain friends. I think I just wrote the generic divorce statement for all of Hollywood.

So, what can we look forward to in 2012? Maybe people can actually fall in love before they get married? And, not like I’m an expert, but that usually takes more than a few months. Let’s ring in the new year!
